Email When you join, you receive an email ID, or username. Your email ID is a unique name you use to log on to WonderWave.net and receive email. Your email address is username@wonderwave.net. Make sure your friends, family, and business associates know your email ID and email address, but DO NOT tell others what your password is. If you use your browser to read email, open your Inbox and click Send and Receive or Get Msg (depending on your browser). Your browser checks the WonderWave.net mail server for new messages and saves them in your Inbox. What do I do with email messages after I read them? After you read an email message, it remains in your inbox until you delete it. When you delete the message, it is sent to your Trash folder. Depending on your email program, the message will either be deleted immediately or will remain in the trash until you empty it. You can also save a copy of the message as a text file on your hard drive or sort it into a special email folder. To save the message, choose Save or Save As from the File menu, name the file, then press the return or enter key. Can I send a message to many people at once? To send messages to more than one person, simply enter additional email addresses, separated by commas, in the To, CC, or BCC fields of the email message window. Be careful when sending to many people at once, many users do not like to receive large amounts of unsolicited email. Can I send Word documents in email? You can send Word documents, spreadsheets, graphics files, and even small applications as email attachments. When you attach a file to an email message, a copy of the file is sent inside the email message. The file is automatically downloaded to your recipient's hard drive when he or she checks for new email. Is there a maximum size for sending email attachments? No, but it's a good idea to limit your attachments to documents or files smaller than 1,000 Kilobytes (1MB). Large attachments increase the size of your email messages and make it more likely that the message will be rejected or mangled during its voyage to your recipient. Someone sent me an attachment and I can't find it. Where did it go? Your email program automatically saves email attachments on your hard drive and notifies you with a special paperclip icon. If someone sends you an email message with an attached file, you can open and use the file by opening the message and clicking the paperclip icon in the message window. If your computer can open the file, it will launch the appropriate program (or ask you which program you want to use to open the file. How much space at WonderWave.net do I have to store email messages? When someone sends you an email message, it is stored on WonderWave.net mail servers until you check for your mail. Then it is downloaded to the inbox on your hard drive. Your inbox can store as much mail as you have room on your hard drive, but each WonderWave.net member has a 10MB limit for mail on our servers. If you exceed this amount, your mailbox may be transferred to a temporary compressed file. If this happens, you will be notified and given the chance to decrease the size of your emailbox. Sixty days after this notification, we may delete the temporary file from the server. Can I get more than one email account? Additional mailboxes are an inexpensive way to let multiple people share one WonderWave.net dial-up account. You can add additional mailboxes to your account for a monthly charge of $3.00 each. What should I do if I get junk emails? Unsolicited commercial email, or "spam," is a big problem for the Internet. WonderWave.net has a zero-tolerance policy for spam we forbid our members from sending spam, and we work zealously to ensure that our members do not receive it. If you get a junk email, DO NOT REPLY to the sender. Many spammers send email blindly, so your response tells them that they found an active emailbox. I received a letter warning me about a virus or dangerous product, should I be worried? Many emails containing warnings, are hoaxes. Check out http://www.urbanlegends.about.com/ for product warnings, and http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html for warnings about viruses. The best course of action is to merely delete these hoax emails, instead of forwarding them on. How can I subscribe to email newsletters or mailing lists? To subscribe to most email newsletters and mailing lists, you must send a message containing your name and email address to a central computer. This computer adds you to the list. Most email newsletters and mailing lists publish a Web page with subscription information, and many let you subscribe directly from the Web page. How can I get off an email newsletter or mailing list? When you subscribe to most email newsletters or mailing lists, you will receive an email that includes information on how to leave the list. Generally, this involves sending an email containing the word "unsubscribe" to the list's central computer, but the exact process varies from list to list. If you did not receive an email explaining how to unsubscribe, you may be able to get the information from the mailing list's Web site or from the list's owner or publisher. Read any messages you may have received from the owner for more information. Can my friends using other Internet companies or AOL send me email? You can receive email from people around the world no matter what Internet service provider they use. Tell your friends to address their messages to username@wonderwave.net Replace the words username with your actual WonderWave.net username. I sent someone on AOL an email and he didn't get it. Can you tell me why? Some WonderWave.net members and users on other Internet service providers have reported trouble when sending messages to America Online. Apparently, AOL's mail servers (the computers used to route email to the appropriate users) occasionally lose or misdirect email messages sent from outside AOL. This problem is especially noticeable if you send an email attachment. If you have an important message that MUST be delivered in a timely fashion, you should follow up the message with a phone call to the recipient. Why do I disconnect after checking my mail in Outlook Express? Go to the "tools" menu located across the top of outlook bar in the drop down menu go to "options" a pop-up window will come up, in the window select the "connection" tab, check to make sure the box that disconnects after sending and receiving email is UNchecked.
