98 Dial-Up Networking
To configure
Dial-Up Networking (DUN), you must first open it. Double-click on My
Computer on your desktop. Then double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
- Inside Dial-Up
Networking, you should see an icon labeled, WonderWave.
If so, right-click on the icon. From the menu that appears, choose Properties.
If not, click on Make a New Connection to enter the Setup
Wizard. Upon creating your WonderWave.net connection, you
will need to return here to configure the connection.
- Under the General tab,
make sure that your access number (Phone number) is correct,
then click on Configure at the bottom.
- Under the General tab,
make sure your Maximum speed is set properly with respect
to your modem's speed. A 14.4 Kbps modem should be set to 19200,
28.8 Kbps should be 38400, and 33.6 Kbps and 56 Kbps modems should
be 57600. Then click on OK.
- Under the Server
Types tab, make sure that the Type of Dial-up Server is
set to PPP.
- In Advanced
options, make sure that Enable software compression is
the ONLY box that is checked.
- In Allowed
network protocols, make sure that TCP/IP is the
ONLY box that is checked.
- Click on TCP/IP
Settings.
- In TCP/IP
Settings, make sure that Server assigned IP address and Specify
name server addresses are selected.
- Make sure
that the Primary DNS reads 208.49.144.10 and that the Secondary
DNS reads 69.220.182.10.
- Make sure
that both Use IP header compression and Use default
gateway on remote network are checked.
- Click on OK and
then click on OK again.
Note: In addition to configuring Dial-up Networking,
it is also important to check out the settings in the Network
Control Panel.
